CORONA and CORINA

Posted on April 15, 2020 at 9:41 PM Comments comments (9)
Okay, so I remember a song looong time ago called CORINA! CORINA! and I believe Mr. Lloyd Price used to sing it (somebody please correct me if I'm wrong). But whether you pronounce it CORONA or CORINA (Mother Mattie Mae Jenkins) - this virus has surely hit...us...ALL, and some in more devasting ways than others!

Several lives have been lost and recovered (I know of many  people who have done both) - but nonetheless we continue to trust Jehovah as we wait out this storm!   Some people have called our current situation a Plague, others have called it Judgement and some have said it's flat-out-the Hand of God upon the World.  Me?  I say it's ALL THREE!

So, as in the days of "Thunder and Lightning" - when the old folks would say "Y'all kids sit down, be still and listen while the Lord does His work" - it's juuuust what the Genesis Theatre Company plans on doing!

So in the midst of this global Pandemic of COVID-19, The Genesis Theatre Company will: sit down, be still and "watch" while the Lord does His Handy Work.  And prayerfully when it's all over (for this too shall pass) - we will be ready to share with the world what God has shared with us during this...time...of..."Silence!"

It is my utmost prayer that during this solemn time of reflection - that you and your family will:
Be Well, and Stay Safe!        Peace!

Welcome Back:  Ms. Ella!

"..It t'aint whatcha do it's the way that cha do it"...
My Grandmother Beatrice always told me "Sherri Lynn, be careful WHAT YOU do, and HOW you do it!"  Not realizing the depth of her words until I was much older - I was ever so mindful to always try to do good things because I never knew just exactly WHO was watching besides Jehovah's eyes in Heaven!

Now, I've not always done the right thing, but to have the Genesis Theatre Company bring back "SIMPLY, ELLA" - A moving musical tribute story about the life/times of Ms. Ella Fitzgerald - Chiiiile I KNOW we're doing something RIGHT!

Simply, Ella - stars Indy's own Ms. Sandy Lomax and her swinging band (the Wreckin Crew).  We also partner up with the Iibada Dance Company as they serve as the Savoy Ballroom Dancers!  Don't miss this fabulous show and it's amazing vibe!  You'll laugh, cry, dance, swing and all that Jazz with SIMPLY, ELLA!

No...it aint whatcha do - it's the way that cha do it, and this time We're doing it even bigger!  Guess what?...what?  the Great-great nieces of Ms. Ella will be joining us for an encore presentation of the show on Saturday 4/25.

So, hurry - get your tickets TODAY!  Because you just don't wanna miss SIMPLY, ELLA!

It's Christmas Time in Harlem...

Harlem!  I've always wanted to live in Harlem, NY - even if it was just for only 30 days!  I once told my Grandparents Jack & Pete that I believed I'd been on the earth before, prior to my initial arrival in July of 1966.  I told them that I believed the year was 1955, and that I 24 years old and living in Harlem!

It's been said that Writers can only write about what they know and feel - and with said I know that I am at least 35 years behind the time that I was blessed to arrive on earth.

Family has always been the focal point of my life - and thus this brings us to our next show - "A SILENT NIGHT IN HARLEM" - which is set around the Bohannan Family, in 1955 at Christmas time. This show is filled with delectable delights that are sure to leave you full of joy this Holiday Season!

Don't miss "A SILENT NIGHT IN HARLEM"

Esther, Esther, Esther

One of My Favorite Biblical Stories is the story of Esther.  I find this biblical story extra fascinating because while I don't see the Lord's name at any point through out this story - I can surely see His Mighty and Awesome Hand navigating the circumstances that showcase His providence!

The Lord God Jehovah proves yet again that He alone is in Control!  This story speaks volumes to me in that it's a soft reminder that while things may look dark and bleak - and it may seem like our enemies are getting the best of us, as long as we stay on the Lord's side - we have nothing to fear!

QUEEN ESTHER is next up!  And the Genesis Theatre Company is proud to present this miraculous stage play production!   DON'T MISS:  "QUEEN ESTHER - A Fearless Sheroe" and come see the good reversal of an evil order!

Greetings and Salutations!

Happy New Year!  I hope your new year is off to a grand and glorious start and is as well as can be!

"When I was girl about half past 3 my Ma said daughter come here to me - she said things may come and things may go but this is one thing you oughtta know - oh "It aint whatcha  do, it's the way that you do it" and that's what gets results!

This is one of my favorite songs sung by the First Lady of song - Ms.  ELLA FITZGERALD!  And in honor of her 102nd birthday, the Genesis Theatre Company is proud to present "SIMPLY, ELLA!" - A Musical Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, starring Indy's own:  The incomparable Ms. Sandy Lomax as Ella Fitzgerald!

Sway to the tunes of yester-year as Ms. Sandy belts out the smooth poetic sounds as if you're hearing Ms. Ella herself! She'll scat-bap-bee-dap the night way with favorites like "A Tisket, A Tasket", "I Got Rhythm", "It Don't Mean A Thing if it Aint got that Swing", "Jersey Bounce", "How High the Moon" and many many more!

Don't miss this fascinating rhythmic show full of song and dance with numbers like the Jitterbug, and the Lindy Hop.
SIMPLY, ELLA is simply delightful and simply not to be missed!

See you at the show!
